  5. How Does Soap Affect The Skin?

Our skin has a slightly acidic pH of 5.5, whereas a standard soap bar has an alkaline pH ranging from 9-14. The acidic pH is essential to maintain the texture and even tone of the skin. Soaps disrupt this acidic pH, thereby causing visible signs of dryness. Usually, the pH returns to normal after an hour or two after cleansing, but the constant use of soap bars can damage skin barrier making the skin prone to irritation, itching, and redness.
